The University of Pittsburgh is inviting SFU Econ students to apply to their Master of Science in Quantitative Economics (MQE). They will continue taking applications for the Fall 2023 cohort until July 31st, which begins in August. While we have rolling admission, the new May 15th deadline is for priority admission consideration. A few highlights: wrote out to share with students:

  • There’s no GRE requirement
  • The program is only 8 months and is a high-priority occupation which means there is high demand in industry for data analysts, quantitative traders, data consultants, etc.
  • 94% of our alumni secured jobs in industry or continued their education. Only 2 alums took a gap year or not currently looking for a job, otherwise it would be 100%.
  • Our program has an Advisory Board and Alumni who give back to the program in a variety of ways through mentoring, job referrals, career chats, and more!
  • Students also complete a semester-long data-centered capstone with a Pittsburgh-area company helping to culminate their experience in the program.
  • All students in this cohort-based program will also have me as their personal career coach throughout the program. I offer career services and advising, career workshops and trainings, job referrals, and help transition the students to job-ready professionals.
  • This is a high-earning program with graduates making an average salary range between $75,000-$190k and an average salary of around $93+k respectively.

We will be offering virtual information sessions each month throughout the year. Please note that each MQE Admissions and Career session and Capstone and Courses session are identical so a student only needs to attend one of each. If these days/times don’t work, we are flexible and would still love to connect with students virtually.

  • MQE Capstone & Courses with Dr. Walsh – Monday, April 3rd at 10am EST
  • MQE Admission and CareerTuesday, April 11th at 10am EST
  • MQE Capstone and Courses with Dr. WalshMonday, April 17th at 10am EST
  • MQE Admission and Career – Tuesday April 25th EST

Email lopez.stasia@pitt.edu or mqeinfo@pitt.edu to let them know if they can join one or both sessions!  If you can’t make these sessions, they can accommodate other dates and times – just send them an email.
