Academic support
From the moment you accept your offer to study at SFU, our friendly and knowledgeable academic advisors can help you with everything from course selection to degree planning. Advisors give you the best possible start to your studies and every step of the way through to your graduation.
Social support
Find friendship from the start with peer mentors. These second and third year students are your personal guides to give you the inside scoop on quiet study spaces, fun clubs and activities, favourite professors, and the best food on campus. They may even become your best friend (watch Zarik and Nick's true story)!
I learned so much about myself. SFU challenged me in so many ways, but it also helped me build confidence, create meaningful connections, and discover what I’m passionate about. I will carry the lessons from this adventure into every chapter ahead.

Arts Central
Located at the heart of SFU's Burnaby campus, Arts Central is the go-to place for FASS student resources and a friendly space to hang out or study with friends.
FASS One
FASS One is a first-year experience admission option offered at SFU’s Surrey campus specifically designed to connect first-year students with peers as well as professors.
Student unions
Members of student unions organize social, academic, and career-related events for students and work together to better represent their needs and interests in their departments.
By getting involved with FASS student unions and clubs, I built meaningful career connections and lifelong friendships.
Scholarships and awards
Entrance funding opportunities
SFU offers entrance scholarships, awards and bursaries for incoming students.
- The Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarship (USES) program recognizes students with strong academic records and meaningful community involvement. Scholarships range in value from $20,000 to $140,000.
- Entrance Awards and Bursaries place greater emphasis on leadership, community engagement and financial need than on academic achievement alone.
Financial supports
Undergraduate students can access a range of financial supports—including scholarships, awards and bursaries—that are available for both domestic and international students.
- Scholarships ($1,000 to $11,000) primarily recognize academic achievement
- Awards ($1,000 to $10,000) recognize accomplishments such as leadership, community involvement, volunteerism and other contributions
- Bursaries ($500 and $4,000) support students with demonstrated financial need
