Biography

Dr. Elizabeth King is an Assistant Professor with the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University and works clinically as an Infectious Diseases specialist with Providence and Fraser Health. She received her BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Northern British Columbia, followed by her MD at the University of British Columbia. She went on to gain specialty training in Internal Medicine and subspecialty training in Infectious Diseases at UBC, then completed a Masters degree in Health Sciences at UBC. She went on to do a research fellowship with the UBC Clinician Investigator Program. Dr. King has received several competitive grants and awards, including the CIHR Women’s Health and Mentorship grant, Mark Wainberg CTN scholarship, and 2020 MSFHR trainee award. Dr. King’s research program seeks to understand and diminish health inequities experienced by women living with HIV.

Research Interests

As a clinician and researcher, Dr. King is committed to improving the healthcare of women living with HIV. Her research focuses specifically on age-related health disparities for women with HIV, a topic of relevance given the shifting age demographic of this group. Here, Dr. King seeks to explore two main aspects of aging: i.) menopausal care, and ii.) HIV pharmacology. These two complementary aspects are integral to women’s well-being and both have been identified by community partners as priority areas.  Her research uses community-based methodology with quantitative and mixed-methods approaches to answer questions pertinent to these areas.
