Biography

Hadia Samim is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, where her teaching and scholarship examine the intersections of global health, equity, and systems transformation. She has designed and taught senior undergraduate courses including HSCI 486 (Senior Seminar in Global Health), HSCI 481 (Displacement and Health), HSCI 495 (Applied Health Sciences Project), and EQH 425 (Addressing Structural Inequities in Healthcare) through SFU Continuing Studies.

Her courses engage students in exploring the structures and power dynamics of global health governance - analyzing how institutions such as the World Health Organization, United Nations agencies, and the World Bank Group shape global health priorities, funding, and policy. Her pedagogy emphasizes critical reflection, equity-centred analysis, and the translation of theory into practice through community engagement and policy application.

Beyond academia, Hadia has collaborated with UN agencies, the World Bank Group, and Fraser Health Authority on initiatives spanning global governance, health policy, and the social determinants of well-being. She also leads community-based projects supporting refugees and newcomers to Canada and serves as a Climate Ambassador with Connect4Climate, a global partnership hosted by the World Bank Group, promoting climate action, health equity, youth engagement, and sustainable development.

Through her teaching, community leadership, and systems transformation work, Hadia is committed to advancing health equity and inclusive governance - from global policy to local practice. Her work reflects a commitment to bridging global insight and local leadership in the pursuit of equitable and sustainable health systems.
