BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS
Epidemiology and Population Health
STATUS: This is a 1-year contract with the possibility of extension
JOB START DATE: May to June 2019
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC
JOB: Assists the research group in the implementation, execution and evaluation of research and research related activities, primarily the COAST Study and the CANOC Study. Responsibilities may include working with a team on grant writing, manuscript writing, planning and delivering community-based research projects, planning and delivering knowledge translation initiatives, and administrative duties.
ORGANIZATION: The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS currently employs a team of Statisticians, Programmers, Data Managers, Clinical Research Assistants, Data Analysts and Data Entry Clerks who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies. The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Conducting and assisting with clinical epidemiological research projects related to HIV, mental health, aging, social determinants of health, and chronic disease.
· Maintains strict confidentiality related to identification and release of study data.
· Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications.
· Conducts literature reviews.
· Writes and contributes to manuscript development.
· Assists in the development of community engagement initiatives, working with the research team and relevant community organizations.
· Assist in the preparation and submission of research protocols for funding and ethics review.
· Organizes research meetings and facilitates collaboration between researchers and other experts, including clinicians, community advocates, and health officials and other healthcare decision makers.
· Event planning.
· Performs other duties as required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· University Graduate or Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
· One to three years previous research experience working in the healthcare field.
· Strong knowledge and experience in using PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar etc.
· Excellent writing and communication abilities.
· Experience with scientific writing for manuscripts and grants.
· Experience with conducting reviews and synthesis of scientific literature.
· Knowledge of basic principles and practices in epidemiology, including quantitative and qualitative analytic strategies.
· Knowledge of basic health research design and protocol development.
· Prior experience working with communities disproportionately affected by HIV or in epidemiology/population health is an asset.
· Ability to work highly independently, with minimal supervision.
· Exceptional organizational and administrative skills.
· A high degree of initiative and leadership.
· Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
· Competency with Microsoft Office Software (including Microsoft Excel), Reference Manager or related software, Statistical software (STATA, SAS, NVIVO), and familiarity with e-mail and Internet.
