Job Opportunity - Data Analyst, Health Surveillance - First Nations Health Authority

Position Summary

This position is primarily responsible constructing analysis frameworks and planning as part of a team, conducting surveillance, surveys, data input, analysis, report writing and knowledge exchange on large data sets housed by FNHA. This position ensures that surveillance, surveys, data input, data analysis and research activities carried out to comply with FNHA Health Surveillance Unit’s priorities, standards and best practices.  Additionally, as part of a multidisciplinary team, this position actively engages in the participation in various activities, events and programs by the FNHA Health Surveillance Unit.

Responsibilities

  1. Conducts data input, data analysis, prepares summaries, visuals and contributes to preparation of analysis, reports, presentations, and discussion papers concerning Health Surveillance with special focus on COVID-19 surveillance, immunization coverage, perinatal health, chronic disease registry and any other Health Surveillance data analysis as may be required for First Nations in BC.
  2. Prepares analysis plans and frameworks as directed by the manager, supported by the Health Surveillance Team and/or Multidisciplinary Team.
  3. Undertakes and oversees the maintenance of records and reports and analysis, and engages in various administrative tasks related to Health Surveillance.
  4. Collaborates with various partners, communities at local, regional provincial and national level to obtain and provide necessary information around Health Surveillance data set.
  5. Ensures follow-up with relevant partners for further information and reports required pertaining to Health Surveillance.
  6. Communicates with the Health Surveillance Team on with regards to various aspects of Health Surveillance and to ensure appropriate and useful information is made available when faced with challenges in proceeding with ongoing tasks.
  7. Participates in Health Surveillance Team and multi-disciplinary project teams/working groups, duly called meetings with provincial and regional teams, participates in training activities, and liaises with various regional offices and departments.
  8. Promotes Health Surveillance for FNHA that is in alignment with cultural sensitivity and cultural humility and OCAP principles
  9. Identifies, analyzes and provides recommendations on Health Surveillance outcomes, challenges, opportunities, and evidence based recommendations for interventions concerning First Nations Communities.
  10. Links with province-wide research, knowledge exchange and evaluation teams and staff concerning research resources to utilize at the regional level for community and First Nations purposes, polices and processes.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A University Degree with an acceptable specialization in one or more of the following areas; biostatistics, epidemiology, mathematics or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience
  • An understanding and/or completion of courses in advanced statistics, and/or biostatistics, public-health analysis and/or evidence-based methods
  • Preferred successful completion of a post-secondary education or specialized program with a First Nations focus

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

 

Experience

  • Relevant, recent and significant experience in data collection, data analysis and presentation of data to a wide variety of audiences (normally acquired over 2 years)
  • Experience working with statistical R requirement and SAS is an asset
  • Experience working with Tableau is an asset
  • with BC First Nations communities and/or organizations
  • Experience in developing proposals and briefing packages
  • Experience utilizing a variety of office tools including Microsoft Office suite and SharePoint
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information and matters in a trusted and responsible manner
  • Experience developing and maintain administrative systems, processes and procedures
  • Experience with Indigenous Surveillance/Research Methods is an asset

 

Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of the concepts, theories and principles of Surveillance, Public Health Biostatistics and Epidemiology is required to: plan, design and conduct epidemiological, Statistical analyses for Surveillance and Surveys
  • Knowledge of statistical software SAS, R, SPSS and, or STATA is required
  • Knowledge of the FNHA Health and Wellness concept, and its structure and inter-dependencies
  • Knowledge of data collection, Surveillance and analysis and approaches
  • Knowledge of Surveillance and Survey approaches reflective of Indigenous epistemologies
