Research projects for a master’s students in experimental health sciences 

Projects titles:  

1) Study of endocrine disruption potential by volatile organic compounds and trace elements in a human fetoplacental co-culture  

2) Impact of volatile organic compounds and trace elements on fetal testis development  

Place : INRS―Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie, situé au 531, boul. des Prairies, Laval (Québec), Canada  

Description: Profs Thomas Sanderson, Cathy Vaillancourt and Géraldine Delbès are looking for 2 master’s students at INRS ― Center Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie. The proposed projects aim to study the effects of environmental concentrations of volatile organic compounds and trace elements on key endocrine processes in fetal development. These projects are part of the EXPERIVA - Exposures in the Peace River Valley study on gestational exposure to contaminants from hydraulic fracturing in northeast British Columbia and the potential for endocrine disruption of these chemical compounds  

Research area: toxicology, physiology, development, Cellular and molecular biology  

Start time: Fall 2020 or Winter 2021

• Project 1: Pr Thomas Sanderson and Pre Cathy Vaillancourt (co-supervisor)  • Project 2: Pre Géraldine Delbès and Pre Élyse Caron-Beaudoin (co-supervisor, University of Toronto Scarborough – Interdisciplinary Centre for Health & Society, Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences)  

Financial support: Our Research University offers many scholarship programs. Every student-researcher benefits from a research stipend during their higher education studies (17 220$ per year) 

Program: Master’s degree in experimental health sciences  

Profile: The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree (minimum GPA of 3 / 4.3) in biology, pharmacology, biochemistry or physiology or any relevant filed. French and English speaking is a plus.
