Knowledge Exchange Lead

BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS), Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) Regular, Full-Time Vancouver, B.C.

BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS) provides provincial specialized mental health and substance use services to British Columbians, including: Adult Complex Mental Health and Substance Use, Forensic Mental Health Services, and Correctional Health Services. BCMHSUS also has a provincial role in virtual health, health literacy, prevention, and early intervention, research, knowledge exchange, provincial clinical policy and system planning.

Reporting to the Provincial Director, Strategic Initiatives, and the Knowledge Exchange Lead develops, implements and evaluates knowledge exchange (KE) strategies and approaches to strengthen connections between evidence and practice and to build capacity for uptake and evaluation of evidence-based practice across BCMHSUS. The KE Lead also directs and supports the development, implementation and evaluation of mechanisms (e.g., standards, networks) to support evidence-based care along the full continuum of MHSU care in the province.

This position requires a strong understanding and demonstrated track record in developing and applying KE theories, principles, and practices in an applied healthcare setting. The KE Lead will possess a solid understanding of and interest in mental health and substance use. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated capacity to innovate, lead change, inspire, engage, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Other key attributes include:

  • Education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in health or social sciences, nursing, education, or related discipline.
  • At least five (5) years of recent relevant and related work experience (e.g. healthcare quality improvement, research, knowledge exchange).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated strength in effective, respectful, and clear communications with a broad range of stakeholders, including people with lived/living experience and their families.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking and creative problem solving skills including the ability to present information in concise and meaningful ways.
  • Clear commitment to and capacity for collaborative approaches that take into account multiple levels and kinds of interests and roles in the broad continuum of MHSU services and supports, and ability to navigate complex and potentially politically sensitive terrain with diplomacy, tact, and skill.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish appropriate and effective courses of action for self and others.
  • Experience and skills in developing resources and tools to support KE.
  • Strong grasp of implementation science.
  • Knowledge of and experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
