Term: 1.0FTE; One-year term contract, renewable dependent on funding

Salary: $51,000-56,000, dependent on experience

Location: Victoria, BC (currently working remotely)

We are seeking an experienced program coordinator for our Active School Travel (AST) Pilot Program. As the Program Coordinator, your role will be to implement the Active School Travel Pilot Program for pilot schools in BC in line with our AST program and evaluation plans. You will be working in a highly collaborative team environment with BCHC staff and partner organizations as well as working directly with the school leads involved in the AST program.

The Active School Travel (AST) Pilot Program is a pilot initiative led by BC Healthy Communities Society (BCHC) and is a collaborative partnership between BCHC and the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. Results from the Pilot Program will inform the development of a full-scale program open to all schools across the province. Position Links

  • Work closely with the Executive Director, who provides strategic oversight
  • Work closely with, and receive guidance from, the Communications Manager and Evaluation Specialist around communications and evaluation activities
  • Work collaboratively with other BCHC staff around grant administration, research and delivery
  • Provide direct support to participating schools
  • Work with other external multi-sectoral groups which may include Indigenous and non-Indigenous local governments, regional health authorities, school districts, not-for profit and community organizations as potential partnership opportunities arise

Duties and Responsibilities

Overall, you are responsible for the coordination and implementation of the AST program in school communities across B.C. through the following tasks:

 Coordination/Project Management

  • Provide secretariat services to coordinate meetings and planning sessions
  • Coordinate and oversee day to day implementation of project deliverables
  • Conduct outreach and engagement to school communities and partner organizations
  • Participate in planning and management meetings
  • Work with BCHC staff to administer and track the AST grants
  • Document learning, track and monitor progress/process
  • Develop regular status updates and funder reports
  • Work with communications team to develop blog posts, stories, etc.

Facilitation

  • Coordinate details for delivery of AST modules and processes (webinars, workshops, etc.) for participating schools
  • Deliver online training modules, share resources, coordinate activities as part of the facilitated supports provided
  • Coordinate and lead the online AST Community of Practice
  • Deliver promotional presentations (online: webinars, partner meetings, conferences etc.)

Evaluation

  • Document information (e.g. testimonials) provided by school communities to support the Communications team with development of promotional content and the Evaluation team with additional data
  • Support the analysis of data from facilitated sessions, identifying themes, opportunities, areas for further development and support
  • Support overall evaluation activities (surveys, etc.)
  • Develop summary reports for funders and Executive Director

Relationship/Partnership Development

  • Facilitate connections between and amongst participating schools, local governments, and health authorities where relevant.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and help to coordinate opportunities to further partnership links/networks
  • Work with Executive Director and BCHC to help make links where applicable across BCHC programs/activities

Participates as a member of BCHC Team 

  • Contribute as an active team member to meetings and planning sessions
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve a coordinated approach to projects across the organization
  • Remain current with best training/facilitation practices, trends and opportunities to increase efficiencies 
  • Maintain a respectful, courteous and team spirit environment

Required Skills

Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • Masters in Public Health (MPH) or other University degree and courses specific to: community development, public health, adult education, program planning and implementation, Healthy Communities (expertise in public health a strong asset)
  • Experience working in schools setting, understanding of working with schools, and projects related to active communities, active school travel
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience and demonstrated track record in program coordination
  • Understanding of the determinants of health and recognizes links between key determinants of health and community focus areas such as active school travel
  • Demonstrated experience in workshop\curriculum design/delivery
  • Digital proficiency required: Gmail, GSuite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Slack, project management software, Apple and PC, etc.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to take initiative and self-start
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to work through complex challenges
  • Ability to research necessary information and incorporate into training/workshops, etc.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships and work effectively as part of a team
  • Experience/knowledge of working with local/provincial government an asset
  • Must be available to travel to communities across B.C., some evenings may be required for work/travel (*Currently adhering to COVID Restrictions and conducting all work online)
