Introduction

Position: Research Assistant

Hours: 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE)

Location: B.C.

Duration: 23 weeks, with possibility of further extension on a full or part time basis

Compensation: $22.00 per hour

Position

Key Responsibilities:

As the Research Assistant, you play an important role in providing data collection, data analysis and overall research support for all programs across the organization. On a day-to-day level you work closely with a highly collaborative team to ensure we are collecting and communicating key data to demonstrate the impact of our work. You report to the Evaluation Specialist while also working closely with, and supporting the overall team in incorporating evaluation into their work.  

Evaluation & Research:

Under the direction of the Evaluation Specialist:        

  • Supports overall implementation of evaluation activities across all programs based on evaluation frameworks and methodologies;
  • Provides data management and tracking support for BCHC programs as needed (e.g. maintaining tracking systems, transcribing, data entry, summary reports);        
  • Supports data collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data from sources such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, web analytics and community stories, etc.;        
  • Provide administrative and technical support such as creating surveys using survey tools, using transcribing apps, analysing data with NVivo, collecting data from webinars and analytic apps;        
  • Provides required data and supports the development of reports, infographics, and other communications pieces to help promote BCHC’s work (to partners, funders and others);        
  • Supports administrative and evaluation related tasks to support BCHC grant programs; and        
  • Conducts research to support team members in program design and deliverables.

Other:         

  • Provide overall support to team members as requested (research, data collection, proposal development, etc.);        
  • Participate in and provide feedback to the overall organizational development of BCHC, including participation in weekly staff meetings, organizational strategic and other planning sessions, and organizational evaluation; and
  • Participate in regular BCHC team meetings, planning sessions, etc.

Required Skills

To do this job you will need:        

  • A minimum of 3 years/60% completion of an undergraduate degree in public health, planning, community development, social science or related field;        
  • A minimum of one year of related experience, including experience in research methods, statistical analysis OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;        
  • Knowledge of survey methodology, administration and analysis;        
  • Knowledge of data structures and data relationships of systems and the ability to use query tools to quickly obtain accurate and relevant information;        
  • Some experience or training in using NVivo and Alchemer (survey tools);        
  • Excellent data analysis, report writing and presentation skills;         
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills;         
  • Ability to deliver accurate information in a timely manner;         
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when responding to requests for data and information;        
  • Ability to collaborate with others in the collection and analysis of data;    
  • Proficient in office applications (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs);        
  • A commitment to social justice;        
  • Ability to be well organized, methodical;        
  • Experience working with community-based organizations;         
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a highly collaborative team.        
  • A solid understanding of critical theory, the social determinants of health, and/or the importance of equity to a healthy society would be an asset.
