Expected End Date: December 15, 2022 (with possibility of renewal)
Location: This position is suitable for remote work. Candidates must be able to attend
occasional in-person meetings in Vancouver, B.C., unceded Coast Salish Territories.

organizations and individuals that champion the protection and expansion of Canada’s
universal public health care system. Founded in 1994 as a consensus-based non-partisan
not-for-profit organization, we work to build diverse support and engagement in our
campaigns through outreach, education and action.
Position overview:
The BC Health Coalition is looking for an experienced researcher to support a vibrant and
effective coalition of over 800,000 members working to strengthen public health care in
B.C.
The Research & Policy Analyst will be responsible for creating internal and external
communication materials in support of the Coalition’s many campaigns. With the guidance
of the Campaigner and Coalition partners, the Analyst reviews available research, engages
policy experts, compiles policy briefs, and designs public-facing communication materials.
The successful candidate will have the capacity to develop a working knowledge of an
issue matter in a relatively short period of time. Key policy areas of focus include but may
not be limited to: corporatization of virtual health care and primary care; seniors’ care,
specifically long-term care and home care; drug policy reform; and primary health care
reform.

Primary responsibilities


• Research & Policy Analysis
o Perform basic research on issues to put together policy backgrounders,
speaking notes, and briefs for coalition members.
o Develop policy analysis with support from the Campaigner, Coalition
partners, and policy experts in the Coalition’s network
o Submit Freedom of Information requests
• Writing & Communication
o Write issue and policy briefs in support of the Coalition’s campaigns
o Design visual communication tools such as infographics, tables, and graphs
o Work with the Campaigner to write press releases, member communications
and campaign documents for the general public in support of campaign
actions
o Assist BCHC staff in drafting and copy editing pieces such as op-eds and web
updates
o Draft content for website updates and a monthly newsletter


Qualifications:


• Strong writing skills, particularly around policy
• Initiative in learning about the research and policy environment for an issue that is
new to you
• Ability to communicate effectively with members in a highly cooperative coalition
environment that requires maintaining multiple relationships and balancing various
perspectives
• Familiarity with writing communication (public dispatches, policy briefs, member
actions, press releases etc.) to support campaigns
• Basic skills in designing info-graphics and document layouts
• Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
• A demonstrated passion for public health care
• Excellent teamwork skills and ability to be self-directed and self-motivated when
leading projects independently

• Willingness to test ideas and step outside your comfort zone
• Bonus points if you have:
o Familiarity with NationBuilder websites
o Experience with submitting Freedom of Information requests
o A background in health policy
o Experience with and/or knowledge of community and labour sectors
o Knowledge of B.C.’s political and media environments
o Experience working in a coalition environment
