Job Opportunity - Research Assistant, Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addiction (CARMHA)

CARMHA is currently recruiting for a Research Associate for an externally-funded research project. Reporting to the lead investigator and working with an interdisciplinary collaborator team, the Research Associate’s work will focus on a series of systematic data/literature reviews on psychoactive substance use, risk behaviors, and health outcomes. The results will form the basis for the development of evidence-based guidelines towards enabling key target populations to reduce substance use-related adverse health outcomes within a population health approach

Position Type:

12-months full-time, term-limited contract with the possibility of extension (depending on funding andperformance). The anticipated start time for the position is December 2019.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

•Responsibly lead the development, execution, and completion of a series of targeted, high-qualitysystematic reviews on psychoactive substance use, risk behaviors and health outcomes

•Work collaboratively with the scientific investigators to develop and translate the results of the systematicreviews into scientific papers, reports and presentations

•Organize, coordinate and perform other research project-related work tasks as required

requiredQualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

•Familiarity with the general concepts and frameworks of population health, research methods andstandards of rigour and evidence-based health interventions

•Specific training in and/or familiarity with and applied knowledge in essential types, methods, and qualitystandards of systematic reviews on health behaviors, interventions and outcomes

•Experience with the standards and processes of academic/peer-reviewed publications outputs, includingactive (ideally lead-author) roles in quality journals

•Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, aswell as the ability to effectively work with an interdisciplinary team and under strict deadlines

•Exceptional curiosity, commitment and determination to contribute to high-quality, innovative, andrigorous scientific review work in the areas of substance use, interventions and health.

Education:

•Graduate degree (Master’s or PhD, or MD with research specialization or training) in the health, natural, orsocial sciences from a recognized university

•In exceptional circumstances, the position may be part of a post-doctoral program.
