Evaluation Specialist

Introduction

This is a maternity leave contract coverage position for 12 months with a possible extension. As it is a work from home position, candidates across BC will be considered. Our ideal candidate will start as soon as possible.

BC Healthy Communities (BCHC) is looking for an Evaluation Specialist to join our highly collaborative and innovative team. Working closely with our public health professionals, community planners, community engagement specialists as well as a range of other staff, you lead the design and implementation of our day-to-day evaluation tactics.

 

As the Evaluation Specialist, you play the key role in evaluating the impact of BCHC’s work across the province. You provide evaluation guidance, oversight and implementation to our team, and you are responsible for ensuring our evaluation activities support the evaluation framework. You lead and oversee analysis of our largely qualitative data, and can translate that data into a range of useful tools to support learning, engagement, communications, and organization development.

Position

Key Responsibilities

Your portfolio largely consists of evaluating our provincial PlanH program, as well a range of other projects and programs across our organization. You also regularly provide the Executive Director and Communications Manager with data to support strategic communications and planning.

In this role, you:

●       Bring leadership and evaluation expertise;

●       Possess strong analytical and data management skills;

●       Work well with a team and have experience providing advice and guidance;

●       Provide attention to detail and accuracy; and

●       Excellent ability to translate research data into impactful reports and resources.

Evaluation and Reporting

●       Lead evaluation design and implementation (develop/refine logic models, evaluation plans, data collection tools and methodologies, analyze and triangulate qualitative and quantitative data), identifying patterns and emerging themes;

●       Coordinate and manage data collection along specific timelines;

●       Guide and work with staff to compile data, statistics, and other information from a variety of sources (e.g. event evaluations, mid-term/final reports, surveys, focus groups, case studies) that support programs and initiatives; and

●       Provide evaluation summaries, presentations and reports for staff, funders, and others.

Communications

●       Link evaluation data to communications strategy for knowledge translation; and

●       Provide strategic thinking around data such as stories, quotes, statistics that support communications (e.g. quotes for social media and our website, interesting statistics around patterns identified).

Direct Community Support

●       Provide evaluation-related advice, expertise and support to a range of communities/stakeholders as part of BCHC projects as needed;

●       Act as BCHC contact for any PlanH grant recipients who are seeking evaluation-focused support (e.g. logic modelling, evaluation planning) as needed/requested.

Other

●       Provides overall support for BCHC program and project activities and initiatives as needed, works closely with the BCHC team to support strategic planning, and overall organizational learning and development

●       Attend, participate and contribute in team meetings, strategic meetings and planning sessions;

●       Collaborate with staff and colleagues to achieve a coordinated approach;

●       Remain current with best practices, trends and opportunities in the evaluation field; 

●       Maintain a respectful, courteous and team spirit environment; and

●       Other duties as required.

Required Skills

To do this job you will need

●       Masters-level education/experience in a related field (e.g. public health, healthy communities, community development, social sciences, planning);

●       Over 5 years of related experience;

●       Demonstrated experience leading the development of frameworks, data analysis and data management;

●       Adept at evaluation and analysis (e.g. with developing and implementing various methodologies, data analysis);

●       Experience making the evaluation process accessible;

●       Working knowledge and experience with NVivo and other data analysis applications, and other tools such as online surveys;

●       Strong knowledge of, and experience with, community capacity-building, community development, public health, equity, planning;

●       Strong critical thinking/analytical skills;

●       Ability to analyze complex scenarios, troubleshoot and make recommendations in   alignment   with the program and organizational vision;

●       Works well in a collaborative environment;

●       High attention to detail and accuracy;

●       Flexibility: able to adapt to changing timelines, different people and work assignments;

●       Demonstrated ability to plan and manage timelines; and

●       Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills;
