Research Assistant Opportunity - Specification and Scaffolding in Project-Based Learning of System Architecture, SFU Institute for the Study of Teaching and Learning in the Disciplines

The Simon Fraser University Institute for the Study of Teaching and Learning in the Disciplines invites applications for a Research Assistant appointment for the Teaching and Learning Development Grant project, “Specification and Scaffolding in Project-Based Learning of System Architecture”. Our goal is to investigate the learning outcomes of group project definition details, and procedures. The appointment will start on Nov 30, 2020 (or earlier).

During this project, you will:

  • Assist with the literature review;
  • Assist in creating surveys;
  • Create, coordinate and conduct student interviews;
  • Record and transcribe interviews;
  • Analyze and summarize survey and interview data;
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis;
  • Assist with compiling the final report;
  • Attend meetings with the project team.

What you bring:

  • Experience conducting literature reviews;
  • Experience in research instrument design such as creating surveys, interview protocols, interview questions;
  • Expertise in coordinating and conducting interviews;
  • Familiarity with Web and Cloud based systems and platforms (e.g., AWS, GC);
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization;
  • Experience with data entry and management;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently, productively, and creatively;
  • Current enrolment in an undergraduate or graduate program at SFU Faculty of Education, Computing Science, or Engineering Science
  • An interest in evidence-based teaching and learning, and education in computing science.

Rate of pay: $24-$26/hr (including vacation and statutory holiday pay, no medical or dental benefits). Note: References will only be requested from short-listed applicants.
