STATUS: One (1)-year, temporary full-time position with possibility of extension

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC. The team is currently working remotely, pending changes in the BC Public Health COVID-19 guidance.

JOB: Reporting to the Principal Investigator (Dr. Robert Hogg) the Research Coordinator coordinates several research projects focused on incorporating the perspectives of community and stakeholders into outputs from an administrative health data study called the Comparative Outcomes and Service Utilization Trends (COAST) study, thereby making use of qualitative methodologies. Furthermore, they coordinate focus groups, meetings, and the composition and activities of a community advisory board, provide support with coordination of existing community-led COAST projects, act as a point of contact for internal research staff, and liaise with other research organizations, community partners, and funding agencies.

Organization

The BC-CfE is Canada’s largest HIV/AIDS research, treatment and education facility—nationally and internationally recognized as an innovative world leader in combating HIV/AIDS and related diseases. A multidisciplinary team of Epidemiologists, Data Analysts, Statisticians, Economists, and Clinical Researchers work collaboratively to conduct research to improve the health of people living with HIV in British Columbia.

Job Responsibilities:

-          Coordinate internal communication with multiple team members as well as external communication with various stakeholders.

-          Prepare ethics application, research protocol, and focus group discussion guidelines.

-          Coordinate, plan, and moderate focus groups with various stakeholders including health care professionals and individuals with lived and living experiences.

-          Coordinate the task formulation, composition, and activities of a community advisory board.

-          Coordinate the transcription and analysis of focus group recordings.

-          Contribute to community engagement, knowledge translation activities, and writing of scientific manuscripts.

-          Assist with the preparation and submission of grant applications.

-          Assist with various administrative tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of research studies and projects and perform other duties as required.

-          Conform to the highest standards of responsible conduct in research and comply with all the BC-CfE’s policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications:

-          University degree in health sciences or a related field; one to three years of recent research experience in the health of marginalized populations, including people living with HIV, or in the health care field.

-          Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders particularly community members, as well as clinicians, researchers, policymakers, etc.

-          Experience working with stakeholders in Vancouver, BC, including the Downtown Eastside, is an asset.

-          Experience with and/or knowledge of qualitative data collection and analysis methodologies, such as conduct of structured interviews, observations, and focus groups.

-          Experience and/or understanding of qualitative data analytical software such as NVivo is an asset.

-          Proven understanding of and appreciation of research ethics, confidentiality, and privacy regulations.

-          Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

-          Affinity with and basic understanding of clinical and socio-cultural aspects of HIV and/or substance use (i.e., HIV treatment and care, stigma and discrimination, community engagement).

-          Excellent organizational and project management skills.

-          Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

-          Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
