Job Profile: Research Officer, Quantitative Specialist

Do you have expertise in quantitative research and analysis? Are you looking for meaningful work promoting and protecting human rights in B.C.? Consider joining our team in this new and exciting role with BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner.

BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner exists to address the root causes of inequality, discrimination and injustice in B.C. by shifting laws, policies, practices and cultures. We do this work through education, research, advocacy, inquiry and monitoring.

Reporting to the Manager, Research, the Research Officer, Quantitative Specialist, is responsible for critical quantitative data analysis, literature review writing, research briefs, critical assessments and reviews of government, non-profit, academic and international human rights literature. The Research Offer must be able to communicate and work across disciplines with our large multi-disciplinary team and diverse research areas and partners.

EQUITY AND DIVERSITY

We are striving to build a diverse team that has lived experience with human rights. Strong preference will be given to applicants who are Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour.

It will greatly assist us with screening if you make reference in your application to these stated preferences. Recognizing the impacts of discrimination, we ask for a brief statement only, to the degree you feel comfortable sharing (for example, “My family background includes the experience of being Indigenous,” or “I have had personal lived experiences that helped me to understand discrimination on the basis of disability”). One of our guiding principles is to operate in a trauma-informed manner and thus, it is your choice whether to volunteer information. We will hold your application in strictest confidence, sharing it only with the hiring panel.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

As the BC Human Rights Commissioner is an independent Officer of the Legislature with the ability to hold inquiries into a broad range of human rights matters within B.C., successful candidates will need to avoid conflicts of interest. This could mean that successful candidates may not be permitted to sit on boards or engage in other activities that could result in an actual or perceived conflict of interest.
