Job Description
Working at the front line of the Government of Canada’s response to the COVID-19 global health pandemic, PHAC Quarantine Officers are instrumental in upholding and enforcing the federal Quarantine Act. The role requires working directly with Canadians and other travellers arriving into and departing from Canada at various ports of entry (air, land, marine) and federal quarantine sites. PHAC Quarantine Officers provide essential expertise to support infectious disease prevention and control measures in order to limit the introduction and spread of communicable disease. This includes screening measures, health assessments and identification of biosecurity risks at ports of entry to Canada.
Key Tasks
o Conduct health and isolation plan assessments of international travellers seeking entry to Canada, in order to prevent or limit the spread of communicable disease
o Apply the Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada
o Promote sound case management by collaborating efficiently with colleagues and managers
o Issue violation tickets to travellers who are not willing to comply with Canada’s mandatory isolation/emergency order requirements in place to limit the spread of COVID-19
o Maintain productive relationships with key partners to facilitate information exchange, mobilization and effective collaboration, including federal, provincial and municipal government partners and stakeholders and local public health authorities
o Engage in public education and outreach initiatives to inform and build collaborative efforts with key stakeholders/information intermediaries regarding the Government of Canada’s current and evolving international travel and border measures
o Facilitate compliance/awareness among international travellers by actively maintaining knowledge, delivering evolving messaging and disseminating Government of Canada communications/information materials regarding public health measures, requirements and restrictions.
Salary
Range from $81,532 to $92,653 plus educational allowance.

Eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse in the province or territory where the position is located.
Qualifications
o Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Mandatory)
o Valid Driver License to commute to your work location
o Accept and be able to wear PPE Equipment
o Canadian Citizen
o English Essential
Operational Requirements
Willingness and ability to:
o Work overtime, as required, on short notice
o Be on call and on stand-by. Currently required to work in the evenings and on weekends
o Travel for work as needed
o Successfully complete the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Officer Designation program
o Work shifts, variable hours, weekends, and statutory holidays
o Be mobilized or remain on standby during health emergency response activations
o Support public health emergencies in Regional Emergency Coordination Centre or other
locations as required
o Work minimum three shifts a week
