INFO

Are you an undergraduate curious about research, how to get into research, and what advice you can get about doing research?

On Tuesday, November 25th, from 5:30pm-7:00pm, come and chat with a panel of students who have worked or are working in FHS undergraduate research at our FHS Student Research Panel

They will help answer questions related to undergrad research, such as:

  • How they got into undergraduate research work/volunteering/involvement
  • Is there a career path within research they are pursuing/doing
  • What can undergrad students do to get involved (in their early or late UG)
  • Advice on getting involved in research (e.g. good grades, writing up an email, talking to profs, etc.)
  • And more!

Our panelists include:

  1. Joshua Dalmann (Master of Public Health)
Working as a Research Assistant with the BC Lung Foundation, Josh recently worked with the BREATHE Project to determine how communities most at risk due to adverse outcomes from wildfire smoke and extreme heat can build resiliency, and suppoted the development of partnerships and coalitions with local health authorities to improve climate resilience.

  2. Jeannine Ho (Master of Public Health)
Working as a Research Coordinator on a CIHR-funded global mental health randomized controlled trial, Jeannine collaborated with leaders in global health, government stakeholders, and faculty from SFU, UBC, and the University of Melbourne to develop and scale up a community-based mental health intervention in Vietnam. She completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) with Distinction in the FHS.

  3. Vandad Hazrati (Bachelor of Science)
Working with the REAFFIRM Collaborative and the Social Justice research cluster, Vandad researches contributes to public health research focused on health equity and causal inference using Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs). He supports project design, literature reviews, and preparation of peer-reviewed presentations

  4. Raj Saini (Bachelor of Science)
Working as an undergraduate student researcher with teams at U of T, UBC, Monash University, and MIT, Raj investigates how social conditions, infection risk, and surgical care intersect; from transplant infectious disease to breast reconstruction, complex wound management, and hand surgery. He also leads multi-institutional projects evaluating large language models in surgery, studying how patients and clinicians use AI and how these tools can be made safer and more equitable in real-world care.
