What is Understanding and Coping with Anxiety and Depression?

Understanding and Coping with Anxiety and Depression is a 2-hour practical and informative seminar for those interested in learning more about anxiety and depression. 

We have two versions. We have a live/synchronous version, which is a live seminar where students can ask Dr. Shona Adams, the facilitator, questions about the topics discussed. Students can also ask questions to our Access Case Managers via the LiveChat feature. If you can't make it to the live event, we also have a remote/asynchronous version, which is a recording of the seminar you can access in your own time.

What can I learn?

  • Learn about the wide range of symptoms of anxiety and depression 
  • Understand the symptoms of anxiety and depression and maintaining factors that can perpetuate these symptoms
  • Learn strategies to manage and help reduce symptoms
  • Have access to information about resources for those wanting further help or support

Where does it take place?

On Canvas, you will also have access to a copy of the seminar slides and helpful resources. These resources are available until the end of term, so feel free to print the ones you are interested in keeping. Additionally, you can share your feedback about the event in the "Quizzes" section.

 Live/Synchronous Version

The live/synchronous version of Understanding and Coping with Anxiety and Depression takes place online via Canvas and Zoom. The Zoom link will be posted on Canvas.

This seminar is a 2 hour practical and informative seminar and is for anyone interested in learning more about anxiety and depression. This will be a hybrid session, in-person in Burnaby with the option of joining and interacting online. We will pilot continuing with the LiveChat feature during the seminar, where there will be the opportunity to chat about the topic and what is being said during the seminar in real time with Dr. Adams and HCS staff. No sign up required, join the Zoom link at the start of the program. Zoom link will also be posted on the Canvas page, which has lots of additional resources.

The remote/asynchronous version is a recording of the seminar that can be found on Canvas

This seminar is an online, self paced practical and informative seminar and is for anyone interested in learning more about anxiety and depression, understanding the symptoms and learning about some coping strategies. It does not take place live, you can join and complete it anytime.

Shona Adams

Registered Clinical Counsellor and Psychologist

Shona is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Psychologist who trained as a Clinical Psychologist in Oxford, U.K.. She is dual citizen who immigrated to Canada when she was 9 years old, previously living in South Africa, Thailand and Malaysia. She predominantly uses a Human Givens and a CBT approach and is a specialist in treating traumas and complex mental health disorders. She uses a strength-based solution-focused model, working collaboratively to help people understand their difficulties and learn different strategies to interact with them. She is humbly aware of her white privilege and is passionate with facilitating people to reach their full potential within a caring and empowering environment.
