Undergraduate Studies in Education

Bachelor of General Studies - Online

OVERVIEW

In collaboration with the Center for Online and Distance Education (CODE), the Bachelor of General Studies in Education (BGS) was SFU's first degree program to be offered completely online.

This version of the BGS Online will appeal to students who need even more flexibility due to work committments, distance from campus, childcare, travel, and more. A blended model is also available should you wish to take a course on campus.

As with the on-campus course requirements, the online program gives you the freedom  to explore a wide variety of subject areas and help you develop the knowledge and skills you need to chart your career course.

Whether you decide to pursue teaching or not, it is an ideal program for anyone who's interested in learning more about educational theories, research and practices and how they apply both inside and outside of the classroom.

INTERESTED IN TEACHING?

If you want to become an elementary school teacher, the BGS Online is a popular pathway to SFU's highly-regarded teacher education program, the Professional Development Program (PDP).

The PDP is a 16-month, post-degree program that helps aspiring educators get a BC teaching certificate.

While completing the PDP, you will also have the option to decalre a Bachelor of Education as a second degree (BEd) without adding additional time or cost to the program.

For more information about the PDP, including the admission requirements, attend an information session.
