Using the SFU Events Calendar

SFU uses LiveWhale to manage the SFU Events Calendar and promote events.

Why use the Events Calendar?

The SFU Events Calendar should be considered a valuable part of your overall communications strategy for the following reasons:

  • Increased exposure to your events
  • Ability to promote all kinds of events, from institutional-wide townhalls to individual thesis defence sessions
  • Provides a place to direct people for more information through social media platforms and departmental websites

Need help?

For general LiveWhale support, including onboarding and content strategy, contact comms_marketing@sfu.ca. Please contact its-help@sfu.ca with any technical questions.

Who can use the Events Calendar?

All SFU departments can use the calendar. Each department must decide on a common login email address for all event hosts on their team to access the calendar and manage events. The event calendar is not open to student groups and clubs.

Subscribe to a Departmental Calendar

SFU Mail allows you to subscribe to the SFU events calendar. This lets you automatically add your events to your personal calendar.

Set up an external calendar subscription

How to subscribe to your departmental calendar:

  1. Log in to LiveWhale with your CAS credential. Once logged in, you will see your department name in brackets after your username in the top right of the screen.
  2. Replace all spaces in the department name with %20 (for example, "Student Services" would be changed to "Student%20Services").
  3. Add your modified department name to the end of this URL: https://sfu.lwcal.com/live/ical/events/group/REPLACEWITHDEPTNAME
    (e.g. https://sfu.lwcal.com/live/ical/events/group/Student%20Services).
  4. To add the custom link to your SFU Mail calendar, follow the instructions on setting up an external calendar subscription in SFU Mail using your departmental URL in place of the ones provided in the instructions.
