Sharing Content
The SFU Communications & Marketing team can help share compelling stories about how SFU and our people are making an impact. Contact us at MediaRelations@sfu.ca to discuss the possibilities listed below.
Share to SFU News
We are always looking for new and exciting stories to share on SFU News. If you have a story or idea, reach out to Mediarelations@sfu.ca. We’ll work with you and the relevant faculty members to develop a story and distribution plan.
Typically, stories on SFU News will feature:
- Institutional priorities, announcements and university-wide updates.
- Meaningful research breakthroughs and discoveries that affect people’s lives.
- National or international awards and/or funding announcements over $1 million.
- Unique student stories showcasing academic excellence.
- New policy papers or dialogue on important issues.
When pitching your story, think about:
- What makes the story worth sharing: what makes your story unique, newsworthy or compelling?
- Messaging: what key messages do you want readers to take away from your story?
*Remember, too many messages and the story will become too complex; too few messages or weak messaging, and the story will lack impact. - The audience: Content for SFU News should be of interest and relevant to the wider university community and public beyond the faculty/department level; who do you want to reach; how will your story be tailored to this audience?
- Visual elements: Strong images or video help to bring a story to life. What visual components can accompany your story?
- Timing: When do you want the story published? When will it have the most impact?
If your story has visual potential, we can also connect you with our video journalist to create an SFU News video to share online and potentially get picked up by traditional media outlets.
