Office of the Dean

Since 1965, the Faculty of Education has maintained an outward-facing orientation to educational research and practice coupled with a strong community-first approach focused on engaging communities and creating educational opportunities for people from all over the world. Today, we are proud to say that we have touched the lives of alumni and partners in over 50 countries by advancing individual scholarly pursuits and enhancing local educational practices.

The Faculty of Education is based across three campuses in Burnaby, Surrey and Vancouver. At each campus, the Faculty has established a unique presence and relationship with the local community. What unites the Faculty’s activities across the three campuses is a strong commitment to the core values of equity, Indigeneity and a culture of inquiry, as well as the SFU vision of being a leading engaged university defined by its dynamic integration of innovative education, cutting-edge research and far-reaching community engagement.

The Faculty of Education promotes a broad range of scholarly and professional inquiry to advance theory, interdisciplinarity, pedagogy and the practice of education. We look beyond precedents and categories to honour inquiry, inclusiveness and imagination. The Faculty is committed to a culture that develops the individual and fosters social renewal. Our scope extends throughout the lifespan and celebrates diversity. A spirit of hope inspires our work.

Among our faculty, you will find world-class scholars and committed educators. Our dedicated staff care deeply about our students and provide exceptional support in furthering the Faculty of Education’s commitment to scholarly excellence, leading-edge pedagogy, innovative curriculum, engagement with teachers, and a participatory democratic culture. As a global leader in educational research and a pathfinder in Canada’s teacher education, the Faculty of Education has a proud history of responding to educational challenges. We are committed to meeting the professional and personal learning needs of students and to serving the needs of the various communities we serve, while maintaining high standards of academic quality and scholarly excellence.

We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the Faculty of Education community. Please join us in shaping the future of education!
