Welcome to the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology at Simon Fraser University. As you explore our website, I hope you get a clear sense of our core values of integrity; excellence; environmental sustainability; meaningful consultation and reconciliation with indigenous peoples; equity, diversity, and inclusion; access and participation; and innovation and collaboration.
Through our teaching and research that is at the epicenter of media, art, culture and technology, we educate compassionate change-makers, visionaries, and problem solvers. We strive to provoke curiosity and interdisciplinary study, connect with our communities, and encourage diversity and inclusion in all areas of our faculty. Formed in 2009, we are SFU’s youngest faculty and have quickly earned a reputation for our cutting-edge and responsive nature.
In our 2024 Academic Plan, "Think, Make, Do," we identify four priority areas of focus for our Faculty:
- Data & Media Democracy
- Indigenous Media & Institutions
- Human Creativity & Critical Making
- Design Research & Creative Technologies
While fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that is welcoming to all, we are committed to transforming the student experience by taking risks, embracing difference, and meeting the ever-changing needs of our student populations across three campuses.
Our vibrancy lies in the sheer range and diversity of our schools and programs, and our unity lies in our collective dedication to imaginative intellectual inquiry, maintaining the highest standards of academic rigour, and the continuous expansion of knowledge through research, teaching, and creative production.
I invite you to discover how our Faculty may help you achieve your academic and creative goals.
