Message from the Dean
Welcome to the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology!
Created in 2009, the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT) is one of Simon Fraser University’s youngest faculties. FCAT explores the intersection of communication, art, science, technology, and design with interdisciplinarity and creativity at the core. FCAT’s schools and programs are strategically anchored at all of SFU’s three campuses (SFU Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver), in addition to the Great Northern Way Campus. This allows our student programs and research to connect with and engage in each of the surrounding communities and beyond.
As FCAT spans all of SFU’s campuses, we respectfully acknowledge the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), q̓íc̓əy̓ (Katzie), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Qayqayt, Kwantlen, Semiahmoo and Tsawwassen peoples on whose traditional territories our offices, schools, and programs reside. As a Faculty, we are continuing work within our schools and programs on decolonization, Indigenization, and reconciliation in an effort to create deep, meaningful, and long-term impact and change.
Across its schools and programs, FCAT includes a diverse and talented interdisciplinary group of artists, researchers, scholars, and technologists, along with teams of dedicated and highly proficient staff members, and amazing students. As a Faculty, we are continuing to advance work on the student experience; equity, diversity, and inclusion; and, strategic research priorities. Our undergraduate and graduate programs are focal points of the university, and our research and artistic practice is cutting edge, highly creative, and internationally recognized. I encourage you to check out the web pages of each of the schools and programs in FCAT.
Cheers,
Carman Neustaedter
Dean, Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology
