SIAT Recruitment Workshops

Short 45 to 75 minute workshops that can be hosted either remotely or in-person. The workshops introduce the School of Interactive Arts and Technology's concentrations with a fun activity students that are able to follow along and produce something cool out of, such as activites involving:

• e.g., game design, graphic design, character design, creative media, motion capture

Workshops are hosted and run by StudioSIAT staff and SIAT students who have hands-on experience in the subject, including SFU SIAT’s official VTubers, who are also played by SIAT students.

The goal is to provide students (mostly prospective) with a real taste of what SIAT classes are like and a sample of the extensive range of available disciplines students can take on.

These workshops are designed to be as accessible as possible, without requiring the use of complicated/custom software or equipment while still providing a fun and valuable learning experience.

Most workshops are delivered by Cappuverse VTubers live on screen, but some may be offered in person if necessary for accessibility concerns.

The workshops are requested by teachers and schools for students-- not only high school students, but any potential person interested in becoming a SIAT student such as post-secondary transfer students or mature students :)

Primarily we’ll be bringing these workshops to secondary schools around the Lower Mainland and BC

SFU may also host them on campus at SFU Surrey on special occasions that may be open to the public, particularly the motion capture workshop which requires on-site mocap technology.

StudioSIAT is the undergraduate production and motion capture studio for SFU’s School of Interactive Arts & Technology, comprised of SIAT alumni and students. It aims to provide students with hands-on experiential learning and portfolio work by connecting them with real projects for clients.

StudioSIAT also launched Cappuverse, the world’s first official university VTuber program for SIAT, with virtual ambassadors/content creators of the school both played by SIAT students utilizing the studio’s motion capture technology and completely produced from the ground up by students.

Cappuverse’s four personable characters, Mo, Faye, Wren, and Apollo, are able to deliver the workshops (remotely in order to protect their identities) to any classroom with a computer, projector, and microphone/webcam to talk to the class. Teachers may request in-person workshops but remote format is preferred.
