StudioSIAT at SFU’s School of Interactive Arts & Technology (SIAT) is a production and motion capture studio that aims to provide students with hands-on experiential learning opportunities, as well as access to the latest production technologies. Based out of SFU’s Surrey Campus and located at SRYC 3815 in the Central Building, StudioSIAT offers capabilities in video production, motion capture, 2D/3D/motion graphics animation, sound recording, post production, AR/XR development, and more.
While it is primarily known for the creation of Cappuverse SFU, the world’s first official university VTuber program with Virtual Ambassadors both played by students and created by students from the ground up, StudioSIAT is also beginning to offer students portfolio project work experience opportunities through its industry connections.
Cappuverse SFU
SFU’s School of Interactive Arts & Technology is home to the world’s first official university VTuber program, created by StudioSIAT as a demonstration and integration of its motion capture capabilities. Not only are our Virtual Ambassadors played by SIAT students, but every aspect of their creation and debuts were produced by students working with us to gain hands-on experiential learning, funded through CEWIL Work Integrated Learning grants. From character design, illustration, graphic and logo design, to 3D models and environments, animation (2D, 3D, and motion graphics), as well as developing a unique mocap pipeline for livestreaming within Unity, students lived the authentic studio production work experience. This was crystallized into a single 6-credit senior level undergraduate course in Fall 2025, IAT 443: Senior Project In Creative Media, to produce the second class of SFU’s VTubers and their debuts in one semester.
