Bachelor of Education

STRUCTURE

The structure of the Bachelor of Education (BEd) depends on which program option you complete:

  • Education major option; 
  • Double minor/extended minor option; or 
  • Education honours option. 

EDUCATION MAJOR OPTION

The Education major option requires you to complete a minimum of 150 units, including one major from the Faculties of Applied Sciences; or Arts and Social Sciences; or Communication, Art and Technology; or Environment; or Science.

You must also complete the following: 

1. One minor from the Faculty of Education (may be fully or partially completed during EDUC 404):

2. Plus, two of the following courses:

3. If you are accepted into the Professional Development Program (PDP), you must also complete:

4. If you are accepted into the Professional Linking Program (PLP), you must also complete:

5. A minimum of 90 units in upper division courses (numbered 300 and 400)

6. At least two educational designs for learning courses

7. A minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 and a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 calculated on all upper division courses completed at SFU

Note: To complete the BEd program, you MUST apply and be accepted to SFU's Professional Development Program (PDP).

DOUBLE MINOR OR EXTENDED MINOR OPTION

The double minor or extended minors option requires you to complete a minimum of 150 units, including two minors/extended minors from the Faculties of Applied Sciences; or Arts and Social Sciences; or Communication, Art and Technology; or Environment; or Science.

You must also complete the following:
