Note: if your application is canceled due to non-payment of the graduation application fee, you will need to reapply through the Student Information System and pay your graduation application fee before the final deadline.

Graduate

You have already paid any graduating fees and no further payment is required. You can check the status of your application on goSFU.

Q: I’ve applied, but I did not receive any confirmation email.

You can check your application status by the following pathway: SIS > Self Service > Graduation/Convocation > Grad Application Status

Application statuses:

  • Applied: Your application has been received.
  • In Review: Your application is under review by your faculty. Status will remain "In Review" until shortly before Senate meets (normally, Senate meets early in September, February, and May).
  • Approved: Your graduation application has been approved by your faculty for recommendation to Senate.  It will remain "Approved" for only a few days prior to being "Awarded."
  • Awarded: Senate has granted your degree: You may now participate in the upcoming Convocation ceremony and receive your degree parchment. You will receive a letter from Senate confirming the awarding of your degree.
  • Denied: Your application for graduation was not approved by your faculty.
  • Pending: Your application is pending, often due to outstanding course credits.
  • Withdrawn: Your application for graduation was withdrawn

Please monitor your SFU Mail regularly for important updates and information.

International Students

All International Students will need a Credential Completion Letter (CCL) in order to apply for Post-Graduation Work Permit.

For the school to issue a CCL, the following two conditions need to be met:

  1. You must have applied and paid for your graduation
  2. Your final grades must all be in and you meet the all requirements for graduation

As soon as you have your final grades, please check your graduation application status on goSFU. If your status is ‘Approved’, you can run the Credential Completion Letter by yourself on goSFU.

If your Status is ‘In Review’, and you have successfully completed your final courses, please contact us at cmnsgen@sfu.ca to request for an earlier issuance of the CCL for you. Please do not contact us for the CCL if you still have grades pending.

If you have successfully completed all requirements for graduation, we will issue you your CCL within 2-3 business days.
