Key messages 

• SFU is Canada’s No. 1 mid-size university according to Maclean’s 2027 University Rankings.
• The result reflects consistent strength: students who win national awards, faculty who win research funding, staff who support the SFU experience and substantial investment by donors.
• Mid-size = right size. SFU students don’t have to choose between a strong student experience and a research-leading university. They learn alongside nationally recognized researchers, at a university that invests more in each student.
• The rankings showed:
  • Students who win: #1 for national student awards
  • Strong access to faculty: #3 student/faculty ratio
  • Research that’s funded: #1 for NSERC/CIHR grants, #3 for SSHRC
  • More invested in every student: #1 for spending per student and library investment
  • Strong across the board: 7th or better on all 15 measures
  • Respected by faculty, administrators and employers: #2 for reputation among mid-size universities
• This result highlights and celebrates the faculty who teach and lead research and the staff who run the libraries, services, systems and supports that students rely on every day. Thank you to the faculty, staff and community who make SFU Canada’s #1 mid-size university.
