The CORTECH Lab studies the psychosocial determinants of health after concussion across the lifespan (adolescents and adults) and use these insights to develop accessible behavioural interventions for those with persistent symptoms. Their work includes theory development and iterative intervention design. Iterative intervention design (e.g., patient partner co-design, pilot testing, feasibility testing, efficacy testing) ensures broader reach, translation, and implementation of this work into clinical care.

CULTURE & DEVELOPMENT LAB

The Culture and Development lab in the Psychology Department at Simon Fraser University aims to understand how the human mind learns and communicates. They do this as a team of researchers, led by Dr. Tanya Broesch, investigating human social learning and attachment across cultures. This lab works very closely with communities on Tanna Island, Vanuatu as they examine family and community life. They also work with their incredible colleagues around the world to better understand how children develop in diverse social and ecological contexts. Their objectives are to 1) expand our knowledge of human development beyond an urban, Western context; 2) expand the participant pool by studying children in diverse context; 3) encourage (and provide models) social scientists to do community-engaged participatory science.

HELPING & HAPPINESS LAB

Intergroup Relations & Social Justice Lab

The IRSJ lab will be presenting social psychological research including results from the Making Ends Meet Poverty Simulation study.

Measurement & Modelling Lab

In the Measurement and Modeling Lab, we tackle research questions aimed at advancing measurement and modeling of Psychological Phenomena, particularly in the areas of health and well-being (e.g, depressive symptomology, physical activity, concussion symptoms, sexual health). MML research projects include studies of data collection and data analytic strategies that are employed in many disciplines, but with specific emphasis on understanding factors (e.g., language background, item wording) influencing people's response processes in the generation of responses to questionnaires/surveys at a single time point and over time, and on advancing novel strategies to model correlational patterns of interest.

Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience

Research in the circadian rhythms laboratory at Simon Fraser University seeks to understand the functions and neurobiological mechanisms of circadian clocks and sleep in mammals. We hope to gain an understanding of how food availability, behavioural regulation, and sleep loss mechanisms influence circadian rhythms and their underlying neurobiological mechanisms.

Social Cognition and Emotion Lab (Helping & Happiness Lab)

In the Helping and Happiness Lab, we study what makes people happy, the emotional consequences of kind or generous behavior, and the well-being outcomes of specific spending choices.

Supporting Relationships and Wellbeing Lab

Our research aims to understand how social relationships can foster better psychological and physiological wellbeing. We conduct research on how romantic couples can reduce insecurities and foster satisfaction in their relationships, and on factors that help single individuals deal with societal stigma and pressures in order to maximize single peoples' happiness. The REWE lab will be presenting current research activities, fun activities and games, sign-ups for research participation, and an opportunity to talk to research assistants about their experiences and inquire about current research assistant positions.

Sustainability, Inequality and Social Change
