Join SFU Education PhD Candidate's STEM Education Discussion at Government of Canada's Global Affairs Event

Dr. Poh Tan, a PhD candidate in SFU Faculty of Education, has been invited to speak at the Government of Canada's Global Affairs Event in collaboration with New Zealand on her research. Poh will be talking about decentering dominant ways of teaching science that can help us understand and manage resources better in global trade. Poh's current PhD research is focused on decentering dominant ways of teaching science and how, by bringing in other ways of knowing, specifically an Indigenous Hawaiian lens, can make science education more diverse and inclusive. 

Dr. Poh Tan is an entrepreneur, stem cell scientist, educator, 2x TEDx speaker, and mother of two boys. With a Ph.D in stem cell biology from the University of British Columbia, Poh is currently completing a second PhD with a focus in science education. Poh is a published scholar and researcher and has shared her work nationally and internationally. 

The event is organized and led by the government of Canada's Global Affairs department and in collaboration with New Zealand's Foreign Affairs and Trade Department. The talks from the speakers may interest graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in SFU's community. It is expected that 200 participants will attend from all over the world.
