Business Administration master's student in the Beedie School of Business

My name is Ifeoma Ibeto, I am a full time MBA student at SFU Beedie School of Business. I have 9+ years’ experience from the Oil and Gas industry, in my role as Controls Analyst, I was involved in various projects, working with diverse groups of brilliant individuals, and I find it fulfilling to know that my inputs aided in solving complex problems and influenced Management’s decisions positively. When I am not working or schooling, I like to explore different cuisines and places, to create great memories. I also love to volunteer because it helps to make the world a little better.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

I was at a transition point in my career, and I needed a program that would aid that seamless transition to a different industry. I was drawn to SFU Beedle because of its structure, culture and diverse cohort. The program structure is based on experiential learning, with opportunities for 4-month internship and international applied projects, where students can learn about businesses in other countries/regions. Also, the culture is very student focused, the system is set up to help students learn, grow, and excel.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

I would tell a family member that my program goes beyond the classroom, it literally prepares students for real life. Every aspect of it, from the program structure to the course content. The world is changing at a fast pace and disruptors are popping up in different areas like technology and ESG. My program teaches students stay relevant, pivoting or adapting when there is a need to, but also thriving, both at work and at home.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?

The experience has been great. I am enjoying the knowledge, i am learning new life skills, new ways of thinking and being. Beyond the course content, l gain so much from the experiences and wisdom of my professors and my amazing cohort. I have evolved so much since I commenced the program. I have also enjoyed participating the co-curricular activities like the MBA games and case competitions, working in teams to recommend solutions to real business problems. It also gives an opportunity to network with MBA students from other schools. SFU provides lots of opportunities for students to engage and grow.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

Yes, It was a great honor to have been awarded the John Ellis Grad. Entrance Scholarship, Beedie Family Grad, Scholarship, Bill Oliver Family scholarships. Pursuing an MBA is undoubtedly a huge financial investment, hence the funds provided from the scholarships made a huge impact, as I was able to settle part of my MBA expenses with it. The funds also helped me to focus on learning and getting the best of the MBA program by participating in several co-curricular activities. My MBA journey was certainly easier because of the scholarships and for that I am very grateful.
