Doaa Magdy

School of Contemporary Arts master's student in the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology 

Doaa is a Nubian Afro-Indigenous interdisciplinary artist living on the unceded stolen lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Doaa’s artistic practice coincides with social justice principles, and she is currently pursuing her second M.A. degree at SFU’s School of Contemporary Arts.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

My research interests focus on the exploration of race and female agency in contemporary horror films, and dance as a movement to reclaim cultural identity and dismantle white supremacy within marginalized communities

SFU’s SCA is a great interdisciplinary department that offers artistic led research as methodology which I utilize as a researcher.
