master's student in the Faculty of Health Sciences

I am a Master's student in the Faculty of Health Sciences working in environmental health and epidemiology research. From early in my undergraduate degree, I have been fascinated by the use of data analytics and modelling methods to investigate how anthropogenic activities impact human health. As a graduate student, I have become interested in the exposure assessment methods used in air pollution research, and how these exposures impact children's health.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

I chose to pursue graduate studies at SFU because of the important, interdisciplinary research being done in the Faculty of Health Sciences and at SFU in general. The wide variety of work being done in the Faculty of Health Sciences has made it an exciting place to do research.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

My research investigates the impact of air pollution exposure during pregnancy on the development of respiratory symptoms in early childhood. Using a randomized control trial study based in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the research group I work with investigates how air pollution exposure during pregnancy impacts fetal growth and early childhood development, and the role of air purifiers in reducing those impacts.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?

I have enjoyed meeting and working with such a diverse group of students from various backgrounds. In addition, working with and learning from my supervisor, research group, and peers in the Faculty of Health Sciences has made studying at SFU an enriching experience!
