Admission & Transferring

Admission and Transfer from Another Post-Secondary Institution

All admission applications to Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (MBB) are administered by the SFU Admissions Office.  For information about admission deadlines, requirements and procedures, please visit the Admissions Website: http://www.sfu.ca/admission.html

Students who are eligible for admission to the Faculty of Science and choose the Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (MBB) program in their applications may receive direct entry to the MBB Major program.

Transfer from Another Post-Secondary Institution:

  • Please go to http://www.sfu.ca/admission.html  for information on admission application deadlines, requirements, and procedures.
  • Students intending to transfer to SFU from other BC post-secondary institutions are encouraged to consult with the BC Transfer Guide for current information on transferable courses.
  • Transfer students are encouraged to meet with the Undergraduate Advisor (mbbadv@sfu.ca) upon receiving an admission offer from SFU.

Internal Transfer from Another Program Within SFU

Students already at SFU may apply for the MBB Major at any time. Students are encouraged to complete their lower division requirements before applying to MBB but may seek departmental approval before that by contacting the MBB advisor (mbbadv@sfu.ca).  The GPA requirement for entry into the program is 2.5 for lower division courses or permission of the department.

Genomics Certificate

Admission to SFU is governed by the University's admissions regulations. After University admission, approval of the MBB Undergraduate Advisor is required for formal acceptance into the MBB program. Major programs that use the life sciences undergraduate core curriculum for the lower division requirements can complete a Genomics Certificate at any time before graduation. Credits applied to the Genomics Certificate may not be applied to another certificate or diploma.

Second Degree

Students holding an undergraduate degree and wishing to obtain a second undergraduate degree in MBB should first apply to the University for admission.  For details visit SFU Admission Requirements and choose the “University graduates (degree holders)”  tab.

Once you’ve been admitted to SFU, make an appointment to see the MBB advisor (mbbadv@sfu.ca) and have available all transcripts from previous institutions to discuss which courses you need to complete your second degree.
