Branson Digital Sonicator
The Branson 450 digital sonifier is taken care of by the MBB Manager, Laboratory Operations.
WARNING: The sonifier generates ultrasonic waves, both audible and inaudible, which can be damaging to the ear drum. ALWAYS wear ear protection and make sure the enclosure door is shut before turning on the sonifier.
Also,
- DO NOT turn on the ultrasonics without the converter and horn attached.
- DO NOT touch the horn or tip when ultrasonics are active. When handling, removing, or attaching a horn or tip, be sure that the ON/OFF switch is set to OFF. Touching the horn or tip while the unit is on can result in serious personal injury.
- DO NOT allow the horn or microtip to contact lab stands, beakers, tubes, or similar objects. Horn/microtip failure may result.
- DO NOT operate the sonifier at more than 70% amplitude when using a microtip horn.
The Branson 450 Digital Sonifier is designed for cell disruption, emulsification, homogenization, cell lysing, processing DNA, proteins, and nanoparticles, acceleration of reactions, leaching and extraction, and degassing.
Features:
- Four modes of operation: continuous, pulsed, timed, and temperature end-point.
- 10 hour digital timer.
- Temperature, amplitude, and power values can be viewed during experiments.
- End-of-cycle shutoff.
- 20 user programmed presets available.
- Power output of up to 400 watts.
Tips available: tapered microtip, stepped microtip (consisting of coupling section plus lower double stepped tip), disruptor horn. See microtips brochure and pages 4-3 and 4-4 of the user manual for detailed description of tips and horn; their attachment and their applications.
