Accessing Finland's Trade Union and Labour History

Contributed by Pete Pesonen [Työväen Arkisto – Finnish Labour Archives]

A brief history of Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) can be read from the SAK's website: https://www.sak.fi/en/about-sak/this-is-sak/history/

The main events and achievements: https://www.sak.fi/en/about-sak/this-is-sak/achievements/

SAK is the central organisation for all of Finland's major blue-collar and "worker" trade unions. These include the Industrial Union, the Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors, the Service Union United and their predecessors. The number of trade unions has decreased because unions have unified to form larger organisations since the beginning of the 21st century
