New figure symbolizes SFU’s commitment to Aboriginal peoples
January 30, 2017
Acclaimed carver and artist Jody Broomfield has just completed an SFU-Squamish Nation Welcome Figure symbolizing SFU’s commitment to Aboriginal peoples and Indigenous education. The welcome figure was commissioned with assistance from the Squamish Nation, Sqomish Forestry LP, SFU’s Dean’s Council, the Office of Indigenous Education in the Faculty of Education, and the Office for Aboriginal Peoples. Originally proposed as part of SFU’s 50th Anniversary projects, the figure will be inaugurated early this year.
