Establishing a Faculty of Graduate Studies
Since March 2024, Graduate Studies has been consulting with the SFU community to develop a proposal to establish the Office of Graduate Studies (GS) as a Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS).
The proposal was approved by Senate in November 2024. The next, and final, stage in the approval process is for it to go before the Board of Governors in March 2025.
Pending approval at the March 2025 Board of Governors meeting, Graduate Studies is poised to hold the first Faculty of Graduate Studies Assembly meeting in April 2025.
In preparation for our (tentative) first Faculty of Graduate Studies Assembly meeting, we will be working with the Graduate Student Society to hold elections for six (6) graduate student voting members.
Additionally, we will be working with programs and Faculties to nominate interested graduate program staff members to be selected for two (2) positions on the Faculty of Graduate Studies Assembly to serve as non-voting members.
Review the proposal and the Terms of Reference for the proposed Faculty of Graduate Studies Assembly.
