Recognized Laddered Pathways

Students who have completed courses as part of a previous credential may be eligible to apply those units toward a subsequent credential. Two types of approved laddered pathways are recognized: internal laddered pathways and approved external laddering credit pathways.

Students applying to a program offering a laddered pathway can indicate on their application when they have completed or are planning to complete a credential that is part of a laddered pathway. The program will then review and confirm eligibility for the pathway as part of the admission process.

Internal Laddered Pathways

An internal laddered pathway allows students who have completed an approved SFU credential or program to progress into a subsequent certificate, diploma, or master’s program and carry forward the units from their previously completed credential.

Admission to the subsequent graduate program as part of a laddered pathway is not guaranteed and students must apply for admission to each credential program separately.
