School of Computing Science doctoral student in the Faculty of Applied Sciences

I am currently a third year PhD student working on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. My background is in Mechanical Engineering and I have been studying and researching in the Robotics field for 10 years. When I was studying for my masters degree in Mechatronic Systems Engineering department at SFU, I became interested in Artificial Intelligence and its application in Robotics which motivated me to study my PhD at Computer Science department of SFU.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

SFU is one of the best schools in Canada in the field of Robotics. It has knowledgeable faculty members and well equipped research labs. I entered SFU to work alongside great researchers on the edge of science Robotic problems.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

I help to improve Robot's intelligence to be able to use them at home or shopping centers, etc. to make people's life easier.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?

Working alongside an active team of researchers as well as knowledgeable and fun faculty members on interesting robotic problems .

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I am a Graduate Dean Entrance Scholarship(GDES) winner that helped me to have enough funding for doing a proper PhD. Suitable income can help a researcher to focus only on research problems and reduces stress of living in an expensive city like Vancouver.
