Tell us a little about yourself, including what inspires you to learn and continue in your chosen field
I just recently finished my undergraduate degree in computer engineering at SFU and I was approached by a professor in Applied Science with Optical Neural Network research opportunities. This seemed like an exciting future direction for Neural Network training so I decided to take the opportunity to participate in her research.
Why did you choose to come to SFU?
I chose SFU for my undergraduate studies due to the modern, technology focused engineering concentrations it offered as well as the locality to where I live. For my graduate studies, I decided on SFU because the professor who approached me with an intriguing research area works at SFU.
How would you describe your research or your program to a family member?
Research in Optical Neural Network simulation and acceleration
What three (3) keywords would you use to describe your research?
Photonics Neural Network Simulation
How have your courses, RA-ships, TA-ships, or non-academic school experiences contributed to your academic and/or professional development?
The undergraduate courses I took at SFU provide a natural building block for the work that I will undertake in my research position. I have also had to opportunity to practice long academic paper writing skills in my Humanities minor coursework.
