" My work in developing a program to prevent and counter radicalization to violence in youth made me curious about how programs are developed, how practitioners and academics in this field respond to rapidly-changing environments, and how we can best respond to these changes as custodians of our young people's future. Tell us a little about yourself, including what inspires you to learn and continue in your chosen field
I'm inspired to help young people in a manner that best serves their needs. The rate that technology is evolving and impacting the youth of today is largely out of their control. It can be both normalized and disorienting for them in a way adult caregivers may have trouble helping them navigate. My work in developing a program to prevent and counter radicalization to violence in youth made me curious about how programs are developed, how practitioners and academics in this field respond to rapidly-changing environments, and how we can best respond to these changes as custodians of our young people's future. I was born and raised in California, but decided to make my home here because I believe Vancouver is the ideal place to create.

How would you describe your research or your program to a family member?
I help young people make good decisions on and about their internet life.
What three (3) keywords would you use to describe your research?
Countering Radicalization to Violence for Youth; Youth Resiliency; Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE)
How have your courses, RA-ships, TA-ships, or non-academic school experiences contributed to your academic and/or professional development?
My academic work and TA-ships have helped me sharpen my abilities to communicate to academic audiences, as well as be inspired by the SFU community to strive for excellence.
Have you been the recipient of any major or donor-funded awards? If so, please tell us which ones and a little about how the awards have impacted your studies and/or research
Yes; I am the recipient of the Edward M.W. Gibson Fellowship. This generous and humbling award will help me dedicate more time to in-person work with young people. I have to meet them where they are at, both figuratively and literally, so I go to schools, community centers, and libraries to commune and listen to the youths of the Vancouver metropolitan area. Now with this fellowship, I will have more flexibility to meet young people across BC and Canada.
