master's student in the Faculty of Health Sciences

I'm a master's student in the Faculty of Health Sciences. My research interests are in global health and maternal and reproductive health.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

I completed a BSc in Health Sciences at SFU and during that time I developed a really great relationship with my now supervisor who encouraged me to pursue graduate studies in global health.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

I am working on a research project that 1) aims to critically examine the motivations underlying the move to privatize humanitarian aid; and 2) analyze the Canadian government's role in promoting privatized humanitarian aid as a solution for reproductive, maternal and infant global health challenges around the world.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?

I am enjoying the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of the Faculty of Health Sciences at SFU.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I was awarded the SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship in Fall 2021. The award has impacted me greatly. It's allowed me to focus on my research and my studies and its given me the confidence to know that my research topic is worthwile.
