SHION SKYE CARTER: SFU SCA ALUMNUS SHARES HER EXPERIENCE AND HOW IT HELPED HER GROW AS AN ARTIST

In a recent video interview, School for the Contemporary Arts Dance recent alumnus Shion Skye Carter discusses her experience with interdisciplinary teaching and the opportunity to take creative risks.

“I thought that you had to go through a really traditional process for auditioning for a dance company. I did not know that there was something so local that was available.’’

Shion explains how the Dance program at the School for the Contemporary Arts allowed her to create and showcase her own dance choreography. The feedback she received from other interdisciplinary artists and her professors has allowed her to become a stronger performer.

Shion is currently a dancer who has been artist-in-residence at WHAT Lab, Left of Main, LENA Artist Residency and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Her work has been screened at the Dancing on the Edge Festival (Canada), Capsule by the National Arts Centre (Canada), Hibrido Brazilian Video Dance Festival (Brazil), Dance days Chania (Greece) and Moving Images Dance Festival (Cyprus).
