move an application between bins
Clicking on Browse in the Reader shows the workflow of the admission process and how many applications are at each stage. Each bin represents a step of the admission process. An application can only live in one bin at a time.
First Column (Application): applications move automatically as applicants complete the steps.
Second Column (Review): This is where departments/units review applications and make decisions. Staff and reviewers manually move the applications through the Review column bins (or directly to non admit bins) using one of the two options below.
- If a bin has a form associated with it, the form name appears in a bracket beside the bin name.
Access to goGRAD/Slate
- Access Slate's administrative side:
https://gograd.sfu.ca/manage/ - Access/share Slate's Reader (review) side:
https://gograd.sfu.ca/manage/reader/ - To access Slate's Reader from the administrative side, click the laptop icon:
Option #1: Move the application forward using the Review Form/Send to Bin button
When an application is in a designated bin and assigned to a user's queue, the corresponding form allows the application to be moved by that user.
From inside an application:
- Open the associated Review Form/Send to Bin
- Click on Next Bin to select a destination bin from the dropdown
No next bin option? users cannot move an application if other readers are assigned to it. When this is the case, only the last user can move the application forward in the process (ie., all other readers must submit their form or be removed).
Option #2: Use Quick Reference
From inside an application:
- Click the Student ID and Name (top left) to open Quick Reference
- Click Edit Bin/Queue
- Use the Bin dropdown to select the bin you wish to move the application to
- Click Save
Cannot access the Quick Reference? Only some users have access to this feature. Contact gpsacces@sfu.ca with questions.
Notes:
- Stuck? applications are locked from moving if there are Readers still assigned. Use the Quick Reference (option 2 above) to remove Readers. Note that this will delete any draft form they may have started.
- What is with the Bin names? We added the corresponding form to the bin names. Why? because that form is only available for applications in that bin.
- Tip: once applications are in the Committee Review bin, some GPA's add themselves as a reader. This prevents faculty members from moving the application inadvertently.
