Admission to Graduate Certificate or Diploma

Minimum Equivalent Qualifications

For admission to a Graduate Certificate or Diploma the requirement is a degree equivalent to a Simon Fraser University 4-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall grade equivalent to a B-.

Admission to Master's Program

Minimum Equivalent Qualifications

For admission to a master’s program, the qualifications listed are normally recognized as equivalent to a Simon Fraser University 4-year bachelor’s degree with minimum overall grade requirements.

Most SFU graduate programs will assess a Bologna compliant degree as equivalent to a 4-year degree.

Admission Notes

  • Pre-university education requires 12 years of study. The Diploma de Bacalaureat is required for admission to university level institutions. Some institutions require competitive entrance examinations.
  • Applicants who have completed a first degree program of five or more years in length which includes a thesis may be considered for admission to a doctoral program.
  • On ministerial order, beginning in 2000 a Diploma Supplement was to be issued free of charge, in English or French, upon request. Beginning in the 2005/06 academic year a Diploma Supplement must be issued to every graduate in a commonly used language.
  • There are many new private universities in Romania. These universities undergo an accreditation process. Consult with Graduate Admissions to determine if an institution is recognized.

Bologna Note:

  • Romania joined Bologna process in 1999.
  • Beginning in 2005/06 academic year a Bologna compliant system is in place.
  • ECTS is mandatory for all universities beginning in the 2006/07 school year.
