"Gladys' work while at SFU contributed to a greater cultural understanding about both formal and informal education systems in Indonesia and in Canada.  Specifically how each system can offer insights to each other regarding environmental and sustainability issues.  Gladys' background in media resources will also assist us in augmenting future education resources for the Indonesia Field School."

master's student in the Faculty of Education

I am Graduate Students at The Postgraduate Program Universitas Sam Ratulangi, Manado.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

I got this scholarship information from SFU. My home institution, UNSRAT has MoU with SFU. Besides, I know SFU is one of the best university in Canada - the place you can get a world class learning. PS : I really like the library !

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

The focus of my research is how women here use internet technology and the extent of its impact on their social lives, especially how to build an environment that still has cultural values even though social interaction is decreasing.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?

During this program, I was supervised by David Zandvliet, a Professor from the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and Director of the Institute of Environmental Learning (IEL). Apart from being a Visiting Research Student, I was also given the task of assisting the implementation of the Indonesia Field School (IFS), which is regularly held under the coordination of Professor David Zandvliet. IFS, is a study visit that is held for approximately one month in summer, where SFU students who pass the selection will visit North Sulawesi Province, where I live.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE?

As the focus of my research is only one thing, I never knew I would end up discovering so many things in 1 course of my exchange program. Learn, how should we educate people, and conduct research in different ways, with different perspectives, how should we position ourselves to pay attention to and protect our environment in the midst of the development of information technology which seems to make us no longer need to interact directly with people. many things, including nature.
