Meet Annie Ohana. Ohana, a recent MEd ESE graduand and teacher in Surrey, the recipient of a Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence and this year’s B.C. Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Award winner is seeking to become the New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate in Fleetwood–Port Kells.

Ohana, the founder of a youth social-justice program called Mustang Justice, has already received approval from the party to run for the nomination.

The seat is held by Liberal MP Ken Hardie, who was first elected in 2015 in the Trudeau landslide.

If elected, Ohana has a lot to bring on the table in these depressing times of growing racism and bigotry. Being Jewish herself, she understands what it means to be a minority and how to deal with the threat of white supremacy.
