Welcome to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS)!

Congratulations on your offer

Here are your next steps

1.

Accept
your
offer

May 1, 2024

This is an important decision you are making and we know there are many factors to consider before deciding on which school or which major to choose. Don't worry—you have some time!

Visit the #KnowYourSFU event in April and get to know the SFU community in person! Meet with faculty representatives and learn more about the programs you're interested in. You'll also be introduced to various services and resources across our three campuses, that will help support you throughout your studies.

2.

Meet
with an advisor
(anytime)

• Online  •  Phone  •  In-person

Advisors are here to help—it's their literal job! But they also want you to feel happy and supported on your educational journey.

Make an appointment with an advisor to go over your course schedule to make sure it is working for you. They understand that you want to take courses that interest you but will also lead to earning your degree one day. And if you are feeling unsure of which courses to take, or which direction to pursue, they are more than happy to talk it out with you.

FASS academic advising is located in Arts Central in the academic quadrangle, otherwise known as the AQ, right across from Images Theatre.

Attend
FASS
camps

JULY 2024

Get to know FASS

FASS Camps is a week-long event aimed at helping new students (like you!) get comfortable on campus and create connections with each other.

Fun and games

Through games and tours, you will become familiar with campus and FASS. Each day is packed with activities hosted by Arts Central advising and FASS peer mentors.

Course Selection Workshop

Choosing your courses is super exciting! It's an opportunity for you to learn more about subjects you are interested in. But we know it can also be overwhelming. Through this workshop, you will receive support from advisors and peer mentors who will provide guidance, answer questions, and show you some tips and tricks.

Sample Lectures

Professors give sneak peeks of their classes with the Prof Talks series, and are available to answer your questions.

4.

Enrol
in
classes

July 2024

You will receive a specific date when you are eligible to enrol in your classes. To check for your enrolment date, sign into goSFU

Ideally, students review their class options prior to their enrolment date in order to prepare and make notes. SFU also has some tips to make this process smoother. To browse the course catalog, sign into goSFU, then select the term and search.

Check out
Welcome
Day

September 3, 2024

It's the first day on campus and everywhere is buzzing with excitement!

When you arrive on campus head over to the new student check-in. Once you have checked-in you can join your FASS HIVE group for a day of activities. Your HIVE leader will take you on a campus tour and invite you to sit in on sample lectures. Be sure to check out the Department Fair and learn more about each FASS department and have your questions answered. Relax and enjoy a free BBQ lunch with new friends.

All new SFU undergraduates are invited—and encouraged—to attend Welcome Day! You can find your invitation in the Get Started newsletter. Don't forget to check your SFU email inbox! Make sure to RSVP right away because registration closes on August 31st!

6.
